Ladies, get in here!

One of the most valued parts of the female body is the vulva. An average female is concerned about how to effectively care of their intimate area. However, before I begin, let me make some clarifications.

Vagina Vs Vulva

The word 'vulva' and 'vagina' are used interchangeably in many day to day expressions but they are not the same. While 'vulva' is the area between the thighs that consists of the labia majora, labia minora, vagina opening and urethral opening, the vagina is the tube that connects the internal female reproductive organs to the outside.

Five ways to care for your vulva

1. Familiarize yourself with your vulva: This will not only help you to determine if yours has the same features as with other females, it will also help you to identify what is normal for you and it will be easy to recognize when something is wrong.

2. Wash regularly with water: The best care you can give to this part is to wash thoroughly with water. Soaps are not a bad idea but ensure to avoid using harsh or scented soaps that can irritate or expose the vulva to infections.

3. Seek information: Seek information from your health care provider about sexually transmitted infections, diagnosis and treatment.

4. Avoid multiple sexual partners: This will ensure that your risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections is reduced to the barest minimum. Although, this alone is not sufficient: ensure you know the status of your sexual partner before having unprotected intercourse with them.

5. Use condom: Once you can not ascertain status of your sexual partner, you should insist on using condom. This way you are completely safe.
