WHY DO YOU NEED TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM HPV AS A WOMAN?

I was able to highlight some of the effects of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) in both sexes in my last post https://adebisitemitayo.blogspot.com/2025/04/hpv-virus-you-didnt-know-you-might-have.html but it is not all men that are carriers of the HPV virus that will develop a visible symptom. In fact, only a few will develop warts. The implication of this is that individuals can carry the virus around and transmit it to their sexual partner(s) unawares.

Why the need for sensitization?

HPV infection has no cure but genital warts does. For you, having a good understanding of it will let you know the things that puts you at risk and how to prevent or minimize the effects as much as possible.

What proactive steps can you take?

Stay informed and educate others: Read this post and always come back for more. My aim is to help you lead more healthy and productive lives. Also, share this post and your knowledge with all the women in your life.

Vaccination against HPV: This is useful for boys are girls who are yet to be sexually active.

Be faithful and stick to one sexual partner: Although, about one in five men are carriers of this virus, being faithful reduces your chances of contracting and / or spreading the virus.

Regular screening: Once you are sexually active and older than 21 years, get screened for HPV and get treated. Regular Pap smear is also recommended for this group of women every three (3) years.

Get treated: If any abnormality is detected with any of the test, ensure you get treated and follow up with your Doctor’s appointment.

Where can you access these services?

You can get vaccinated in ALL government hospitals near you.

HPV test and Pap Smear is available in most tertiary hospitals.
